normal and much less personal

Well, well... shall we start with yesterday? I had an hour in the middle of the day Tuesday all to myself and miraculously all three children took a nap. (At the same time!) Rare as rare can get these days. I let myself think some seriously deep thoughts and this happened. Apparently I made some people cry (sorry) and honestly I could barely proof read it with the darn eyes tearing up. Thanks for your lovely comments. I was a little-okay, a lot- worried about publishing something that is so personal. Sometimes I forget that my friends, in-laws and husband read this. Oh, and sometimes my dad. It was really scary all of the sudden when I thought of that, because even those who I'm close to in my personal (non-Internet) life suddenly knew some things I went through and I didn't talk much about.

and now on to less sappy things

This is how I found Rose last week during nap time. Her picture book was opened to the page with Daddy on it. Just thought it was cute.

We opened our yard gate and let the cows and horses feast on green grass. They mowed it down pretty quickly.

I'm seeing more of this than I want to. Should I start harvesting?

I'll probably lose this list before I'm done writing this post. I will probably do 2.3 of these things and I'll let you guess which ones they might be. Don't you like how supper has question mark? I like making lists but I hate following them. I think this has something to do with my dislike of being told what to do. I'll see if I can cross some stuff off, though.

Also, yesterday was my friend Holly's birthday. I hope you took my advice and had something with sugar. You are awesome and I hope you had a great day!

My sister-in-law is trying to unleash my real name and identity on her blog. How dare her. (she is hilarious and super talented, go say hello to her.)

 Stay classy.

Look-ey Look-ey, a Two Post Kind of Day

I made some more pumpkin muffins this morning. Mainly for me because I was starving. I cannot, in fact, live on coffee alone. I know, it's a sad revelation.
yes, those are Buzz Lightyear paper cup things
After I made those muffins I baked some fish sticks. Because fish sticks gross me out and I still eat them anyhow. It's one of those things you do as a mom. After I choked them down I went out and fed the flock of chickens. Saw all cows, calves and horses. Even took a picture.

Filled up water for all the wonderful farm creatures and then went up to the barn. Apparently Beard-O saw a black kitten in there um... two weeks ago and I wanted to investigate.
Of course my loyal companion, Lorie, tagged along as well. She found a spot where something has dug out a little hole to get under the barn. I didn't see anything. Not even a cat. I really wanted to see that cat. Instead I just took a picture of a tractor.

And another picture of Lorie looking at me and wondering exactly what it was that I was doing.

Oh, yes, yesterday another fire broke out in Bastrop county... went from 2 acres to 1000 in three/four hours. Thankfully, the winds have not been strong and it's at 50% containment now. Scary seeing smoke from our deck. I really wish it would rain.
(**updated to add: officials are now saying it is only 315 acres***)
this is actually the view from our hay field

And an update on the children I'm raising. (because ending this on 'another fire' would just be wrong)

The kids have been coloring and drawing Halloween pictures. D can now write his name... some of the letters are upside down and occasionally it's written backwards, but it's pretty cool. (also, that's normal.) The boys are really excited about their costumes (which have not been purchased and I'm not crafty/skilled enough to make one) and keep changing their minds on what they will be. As long as I don't wait until the day before Halloween to get their costumes we'll be fine. (yes, last year was a mess and I did wait until the day before. Never. Again.) We are always learning valuable lessons around here.

Have splendid Wednesday! I'm going to eat some more muffins and pretend I don't see that mess over there.

Pictures from our Weekend

Another Monday. Another day occupied with the "weekend cleanup". Instead of talking about boring things like that I have a couple of pictures to share.
Friday Sunrise
Curious Horse
Mamas and babies
The kids form of transportation and a hot dog
Happy Monday (just trying to stay positive)

A New Baby

This weekend one of our cows had her first baby.
My goodness, isn't he adorable?

Here they are resting in the shade.

I think I'll go find some shade, too.

Farm at Sunset

Last night we headed out to check on the cows. It was right after 8pm when we got going. They greeted us at the gate in the back pasture. I forgot to take my camera off of "kids and pets" for the first picture so it's a little dark.

Isn't it beautiful?
This here, this is not beautiful. This is drought. We could use some rain. We could use a slow down pour for several days, maybe even a week or two? It's so frustrating to see such lush weeds and brittle brown grass. (I think we could do some shredding...)

Again, a hard to see picture here. It's of the horses. They were running around kicking up their heels. I always get nervous when they do that.

So, that was our little trip at sunset. I have the usual things to do today with the hopes that I can get all 4 loads of laundry put away (and wash more laundry),  clean up in the laundry room, get some plants potted, plan out supper, tend to the garden and chickens and horses.

Just for fun here's what I looked like last night. I need to explain my attire first. I went to town yesterday and was wearing jeans with this shirt. When I got home it was a blazing 143 degrees outside so I grabbed the first goofy looking skirt I saw in my closet. Then, because I didn't want to be bit on the ankles by a snake I pulled my boots on. This was all fine until T wanted to take my picture. So, here I am. Keeping it real for y'all. Laugh all you want.
Hilarious, no? At least I have the sense to not walk around in public like this.
Wait, is the Internet public? Is this blog public?
Possibly regretting this,
Mama
